Florida Pro Musica Performs World Premiere
In April 2008, the Florida Pro Musica Chorus, under the direction of Larry Kent, performed the World Premiere of John Paul Russo's beautiful and moving Missa pro nova aurora (Mass for a new dawn), for 4-part chorus a cappella.
This important concert was at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in downtown Tampa, where FPM has been in residence for several years. Read John Paul Russo's biography and program notes. The sanctuary was filled to capacity!
Listen to a short audio clip of the Agnus Dei movement of Brother John's Mass, and the Gloria movement.
Read Michelle Bearden's story in the Tampa Tribune about the Russo Mass.
The concert also included Johannes Brahms' Zigeunerlieder (Gypsy Songs), Op. 103, for 4-part chorus and piano. The chorus was joined for this performance by pianist Grigorios Zamparas. Dr. Zamparas also performed a Chopin prelude during the interval between the Brahms and Russo works. Pictured are Grigorios Zamparas (left) and Larry Kent. (Photo by S.Gurba)
