The Schola Cantorum of Florida Pro Musica

The Schola has performed a concert of Gregorian Chant during the season of Advent for the last 12 years. Presented in concert form, rather than a liturgy, listeners can sit and absorb the meditative sounds of Gregorian Chant in the visually and aurally magnificent setting of Sacred Heart, leaving behind the noise and hectic pace of December at the shopping malls. These concerts have become a tradition at Sacred Heart, and typically draw a capacity audience. The Schola also presents these concerts in other venues in Florida. Tampa Tribune Photo by Jay Nolan.

Michelle Bearden filed this preview report on WFLA-TV before one of our Advent concerts: Chants of Christmas. Audio samples are on our new CD page.

Schola - Loft #1 In 2013 the FPM Schola Cantorum performed a Lenten Mass in concert at St. Mary, Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church, 515 Fourth Street South, St. Petersburg, Florida. The concert was a complete sell-out, and the group very much enjoyed performing at Saint Mary for the first time....and this season we will be back St. Mary, performing "Greatest Hits of Gregorian Chant" on February 15, 2015. The concert will feature some of the great masterpieces of the chant literature, including both familiar and rare chants from the Middle Ages, from throughout the liturgical year, including Salve Regina, Ave maris stella, Dies irae, Ave Maria, plus more. This concert is FREE, with freewill donations gratefully accepted. For more information, please call St. Mary's at (727) 896-2191.
